The
HypnoBirthing Programme was developed in the United States in 1989 by
Marie F. Mongan, M. Ed., M.Hy. and is based on the work of English obstetrician,
Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, the father of Natural Childbirth.
HypnoBirthing proponents subscribe to the belief that when a woman is
given the proper preparation for childbirth she usually can experience
a safe and satisfying birthing, free of the fear that causes tension
and pain.
Marie's book 'HypnoBirthing - a Celebration of Life was first published
in 1989.
HypnoBirthing methods are now being taught in the UK and I am one of
a small number of therapists in the UK currently qualified to teach
HypnoBirthing techniques, based here in Plymouth, Devon.
HypnoBirthing is a rewarding, relaxing stress-free method of birthing
that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world
in an atmosphere of gentility, calm and joy. It focuses on the techniques
for eliminating the fear-tension-pain syndrome during labour,
replacing it with confidence, calm and comfort. Unwarranted fear creates
the fear-tension-pain syndrome, and the more relaxed the mother is the
easier everything becomes.
It is a Course of four to five, two-and-a-half hour sessions
at £50 a session.
You will learn:
- Techniques
of deep relaxation to help eliminate the fear-tension-pain syndrome
- How
you and your birthing companion can create a birthing environment
of calmness rather than stress
- Simple
but specialised breathing techniques for each stage of labour
- How
your birth companion can help you stay calm and focussed on the
techniques you've been taught

to release any fears you may have about childbirth, regardless where
they came from
